Abstract: Socio-cultural factors significantly influence vocational career choices, shaping students' aspirations, perceptions of vocational education, and decisions regarding career paths. This study examines the impact of socio-cultural factors on vocational career choices among students in Nigeria. The objectives are: (1) to identify socio-cultural influences on students' career decisions, (2) to analyze the role of family, community, and cultural norms in shaping vocational aspirations, and (3) to propose strategies for promoting positive perceptions of vocational careers. A survey research design is justified by the need to gather data on students' career choices, socio-cultural influences, and perceptions of vocational education. The sample size includes 350 participants selected through purposive sampling to represent students, educators, and community leaders. The case study is conducted in Kano State, where socio-cultural factors play a significant role in educational and career decisions. Findings indicated that family expectations, cultural norms, and community values strongly influenced students' career choices, often steering them away from vocational education despite its potential benefits. Stakeholders highlighted the need for awareness campaigns, career counseling, and community engagement to promote vocational careers. Recommendations include developing culturally sensitive career guidance programs, engaging families and communities in vocational education promotion, and highlighting successful vocational career pathways to change perceptions and encourage diverse career choices.
